One of my early inspirations Max Taylor my modern history teacher when he was President of the NSW Teachers Federation on 1982-3, told me we don’t take action for the now, we take action for the future. I came up with the slogan “Its never just about Ability”, to raise awareness about the stereotyping of persons with ability & inability, This stereotyping effects resource funding, medical attention, career opportunity, relationship stability, and the mental wellbeing, depression and self harm.
The concept of the campaign is simple. Ask as many people as possible to reflect on the special needs of both those with ability and those with inabilities, at lunch time on the 29th of July 2010. While the main focus is the children, its not a issue with disappears as you get older. You can further help by spreading this message as far and wide as you can, so others may also consider and reflect on persons with special needs. Finally, and most important of all, if you have a relative, friend, work colleague, child, or some one you know in the community in general, please let them know that they are not alone.
If you would like to have a message of support posted, or would like to read the letter, get a copy of the poster, or lend a hand in other ways, then please contact me on tony@g3n1u5.com
